Willimantic Waste approached DePino Associates for help in the summer of 2007. Willimantic Waste had recently made an investment on a machine that sorts demolition wood which is then transferred to a facility in Maine to be burned for energy. Willimantic Waste’s business was threatened when the Connecticut General Assembly ruled the burning of demolition wood would no longer be considered a Class 1 renewable energy source.
DePino Associates worked with Willimantic Waste to draw this problem to the attention of their state senator, Senator Don Williams. DePino Associates worked with Senator William’s office to come up with a solution to this problem, which resulted in a language change that was included in the implementer passed in the fall of 2007. During the 2008 session other groups came forward that were negatively affected by our language change, so DePino Associates assisted in negotiations to develop and pass language that would satisfy all parties involved.
